Gympie resident Randal Bishop has been selected to appear on the cover of this year’s Gympie White Pages® and Yellow Pages® for his efforts boosting the health and wellbeing of his community.
Randal is recognised under the theme, Keeping Our Communities Healthy, for his fundraising efforts in helping find a cure for brain cancer.
In 2009, after his only daughter Shaynae died of a brain tumour at the age of 17, Randal embarked on a 1000-kilometre bike ride from Brisbane’s Story Bridge to Sydney Harbour Bridge, raising $25,000 for the Cure for Life Foundation.
Randal’s ride is now an eight-day event called the Bridge to Bridge Cycle Charity Ride. Randal organises all aspects of the ride, attracting 15 cyclists who raise funds for the Foundation’s support programs and cancer research.
Over the years, the ride has raised more than $75,000. Recently, Randal has expanded his activities and now hosts information sessions at schools and community groups...
